A lot of hype now revolves around Assassin's Creed III. This is a short summary of what there is to know, and what we can infer from it.

From the trailer shown above, it is evident that Assassin's Creed 3 is going to be set in the 1700's. As expected, the game no longer tells the story of Ezio Auditore, and will not have anything to do with Italy. Assassin's Creed 3 is to be set in the United States at the time. This means that a new gameplay engine is introduced in this instalment. This is great news because after four games which differ only in storyline, the Assassin's Creed engine was getting dated. The trailer highlights new weapons for the player, and more inventive ways to use them. Since the US in the 1700s was nothing like the Italy portrayed in the earlier Assassin's Creed games, new methods for interacting with the surroundings make an appearance as well. For example, Connor (our character) can climb trees and use them as a stealthy means of transportation. Again, this is shown in the trailer above.

Desmond...?
Focusing on the other half of the picture, a few screenshots (slash artwork) seem to prove that Desmond Miles is indeed in the game and that his story continues. This might prove to be the basis for the game's story. There is thus a good chance that playing through the game will reveal the connection between Ezio, Desmond and Connor. This, though, is just me guessing. No promises!

So, all in all, Assassin's Creed promises a lot of firepower which could be just what the franchise needed to get back to it's rightful status as king of the action/adventure video-gaming jungle!

the screenshot shows Desmond into an ancient Church ruined. is it part of game's settings or is it only a picture?
